Dry Lakes Rock Art Documentation

Dry Lakes Rock Art Documentation

In October 2006 Nevada Rock Art Foundation volunteers, led by Alanah Woody, worked to document the rock art sites in the Dry Lakes area northeast of Reno. The project was designed to provide the BLM with baseline information for the management of rock art sites in the High Basins ACEC (Area of Critical Concern).

This area i believe is close to the hill i was commenting about, , but is not the same place. There must me a lot in the area, back east of sparks, spanish springs. I have pictures i took back in 1997 and 2008 .
If i remember correctly, as i was a very active Land listing Agent (Realtor) mainly dealing with developers , Loeb who owned Wingfield Springs Golf community land, traded the land up in the area, with BLM , acre for acre, so the BLM could declair this a historiic site or state park, i was told. I had only delt with Mr. Loeb on one other occation to remove some old fencing off the old original Wingfield homes, and collected hundreds of partial arrowheads, obsidian chippings, etc. from the sandy land that lay in the Wingfield springs devel;opments now covered with new homes. I know of several nice sandy soft lomey soil parcels, i hiked with potential buyers, that were covered with chippings in dark yellow obsidian and black partial arrowheads or basalt arrowheads or partials, in that area. I could walk a parcel, and feel the nice warm protected area, along the bottom of a hill, that was once a home for a tribe, The nice soft sandy soil and large Juniper with cutt off bottom branches, seem to feel like home and give it away. We also build 2 homes off Calle De La Plata east of pyramid Hwy. in 1994, on 20 acres, where a wind mill from 1954 stood and still stands behind one of the homes my father and i built, and it was littered with arrowheads, and an old creek bed, ran throught the back , dry of course. We sold those homes in later 1990’s.
