17 Dec Historic White Pine Co. Courthouse
Replaced in 2021 by the new Justice Center, Ely’s historic White Pine County Courthouse was built in 1908. The building now holds some of the county’s administrate offices. Its setting on a park-like hilltop two blocks from the city’s commercial center, is close to Ely’s middle school, senior citizens’ center, and library.
The two-story Italianate structure, built of stone, is topped by a copper-domed cupola. It replaced a temporary wooden courthouse that was a replacement for the original county courthouse located in the previous county seat of Hamilton, now a ghost town.
In 1986 the courthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
