09 Oct Hoover Dam
From the transformer platform below Hoover Dam its imposing 726 foot height, the highest in the country, is evident. The structure extends 1,244 feet across Black Canyon and is 660-feet thick at its base. The Colorado River waters churn into the canyon after completing a trip through the dam’s turbines. The 17 turbines produce a minimum of two billion kilowatt hours a year, and are capable of producing up to ten billion kilowatts yearly. One of the turbines may weigh up to four million pounds.
There are eleven different scenes to visit in this virtual reality exploration of the exterior and interior of the Hoover Dam (2005).
