Standing more than 6,300 feet above downtown Reno (4,500′), Mount Rose looks daunting. But its summit trail begins high up the mountain pass road (SR 431), at 8,911 feet.
Many hikers are content with the 5-mi round trip to the waterfall, with negligible elevation change. And for those continuing on to the summit, the waterfall provides a welcome rest stop before beginning the remaining 2.7-mi trek up the mountain, with its 2,000 feet of elevation gain.
