Clear Creek Trail

The Clear Creek Trail is about 10.5 miles one way, with gentle gradients for hiking or mountain biking. It takes nearly 15 mi to gain the 1,150 ft in altitude of its high point at 6,200 ft.

Tannehill Log Cabin

Thought to be the first house built here, around 1865, it later served as Eureka's first store. It is constructed from the pinion pines that once grew at higher elevations around the town.

Fairview Peak Earthquake Fault

At 3:08 a.m. on Dec. 16, 1954 an earthquake measuring 7.3 in magnitude was centered near Fairview Peak. In seconds, the mountains lifted up an average of 6 ft relative to the valleys below.

Old Lander Co. Courthouse

Lander County’s courthouse moved around with the population. The first was in Jacobsville. But then a newly-discovered vein of silver in Austin prompted the county to move its seat to Austin.

Hotel Nevada

When the Hotel Nevada was completed in 1929, it was claimed to be the tallest building in Nevada. Rooms rented for $1.50 and up, "All with private toilet; 85% with private bath."

Willow Creek

Fifteen miles south of Ely, the Willow Creek Trading Post and General Store has acres full of rusting machinery and antique cars. They also have a herd of buffalo.

Toquima Cave

Toquima Cave, located in the mountains east of Austin, was used for religious purposes by Native Americans for thousands of years. The pictographs in the cave are unique to the region.

Eureka Opera House

The interior of the Eureka Opera House includes a well-preserved olio, or stage curtain, featuring advertisements for local businesses. The institution dates to 1874.

Spirit Cave

Spirit Cave is found high up in the desert hills north of Grimes Point, some 75 miles east of Reno. During excavations in 1940 the Spirit Cave Mummy was discovered.

Eureka Co. Courthouse

Eureka County built its courthouse in 1879. The courtroom includes original pressed tin ceiling and wood features. An nook for the court clerk in front of the judge's bench is noteworthy.

Berlin Stamp Mill

Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Park is at 7,000 feet on the western slope of central Nevada's Shoshone mountain range. Berlin saw its heyday in 1908, diminishing to nothing by 1911.

Atop Mt. Tallac

Mt. Tallac, at 9,735', is one of the tallest peaks surrounding Lake Tahoe. From its peak the climber can enjoy the rare, uninterrupted panoramic view of 360 degrees.
